Professor Adam Howard

Adam Howard, Ed.D, is the Charles A. Dana Professor of Education and Chair of the Education Department at Colby College. For over two decades, Howard has researched elite schools around the world, peeling back the layers of how privilege works through their daily practices, relations, structures, and policies. Employing a collaborative approach in most of his major studies, he teams up with privileged young people to make insider’s knowledge of how privilege works within elite schools more evident. His work has been featured in Rolling Stone, USA Today, Time, NPR’s Here and Now, and other leading media outlets covering education and culture. He also appeared as a featured expert in the documentary The Boys in the Red Hats. Through a combination of scholarship, public outreach, and media engagement, Howard has become a leading voice on privilege and elite schooling.
